Questions before you buy
How do I know this fits my car?
Look at the back of your current regular remote, or inside the battery cover. If the part number or the FCC ID printed there matches the one in the specifications on this page, it’s the right part.
Lost your key, or can’t read it? Type your VIN when you order and we check it before we ship. Your VIN is on your registration, insurance card, or the driver-side bottom of the windshield.
Which condition should I choose?
All conditions do the same job in your car: same buttons, programmed the same way. The difference is how it looks and what it costs.
- OEM New: a genuine factory part from the car maker, never used. The same as the dealer’s, usually for less.
- OEM Pre-owned: genuine and tested, in its original case with visible wear. Works the same, costs less.
Do I need to program it, and how much does that cost?
Yes, a new key or remote has to be programmed to your car before it works. How depends on the year and trim: on some you do it yourself at the car with a short sequence of key turns and button presses (the steps come with it, no tool, no cost); on others a locksmith or dealer connects a programming tool. Send us your VIN and we’ll tell you which before you buy.
Will my old keys still work?
Bring every key you want to keep using when the new one is programmed. On many cars programming clears any key that isn’t there at the time.
What if it doesn’t work with my car?
Call us first. Most problems are solved on the phone. If the part doesn’t fit or won’t program to your car, you can return it within 30 days. See our return policy.
How fast will I get it?

About this part
GM has discontinued this remote so it is no longer available at dealerships. The FCC ID of the remote is HYQ1512S. The GM part number is 94857255. Vehicles using this remote are onboard programmable, meaning you can use the included instructions to easily program additiuonal remotes to your car. We have free tech support if needed. The remote includes the battery. We test each remote on keyless entry testers to make sure it is working properly before we send it to you. The majority of Prism (Prizm) vehicles are not equipped with factory keyless entry so if you don't have an existing remote to use for comparison, give us your VIN so we can check if your vehicle is equipped.
How to program it: Programming Procedure #250
- Start with the following conditions: Key is out of the ignition, Driver door is open (all other doors closed) and Driver door is unlocked (other doors don’t matter.)
- Insert the key into the ignition (don’t turn it) and pull it out.
- Perform these steps within 40 seconds:
- Using the power lock unlock switch on the driver’s side door, perform 5 lock/unlock cycles starting with lock (a lock/unlock cycle consists of pressing the power lock switch, followed by pressing the power unlock switch on the driver’s door panel. Use an even pace and try to go relatively fast).
- Close then open the driver’s door.
- Perform these steps within 40 seconds:
- Using the power lock/unlock switch on the driver’s door, perform 5 lock/unlock cycles starting with lock (just as you did previously).
- Insert the key in the ignition cylinder. Turn the ignition to ON (as far as you can go without cranking the engine) then back to OFF two times.
- Remove the key from the ignition. Within 3 seconds, the power door locks should cycle (lock then unlock) twice automatically indicating successful entry into programming mode. Return to Step 1 if the locks do not cycle at this point.
- Perform these steps within 40 seconds:
- Press any button on the first transmitter for 1 second and release. Within 3 seconds, the door locks should cycle once. If the door locks do not cycle once or twice then your remote has not been accepted and you should repeat this step.
- Close then open the door once.
- Press any button on the same remote for one second and release. Within 3 seconds, the door locks should cycle once. If the door locks do not cycle once or twice then your remote has not been accepted and you should repeat this step.
- If programming additional remotes (including existing remotes, which must also be programmed at this time), repeat steps 5 a-c for each remote (within 40 seconds of the previous remote).
- Close driver door.
