Programming Procedure #161
Programming Transmitters to the Vehicle
Only keyless access transmitters programmed to this vehicle will work. If a transmitter is lost or stolen, a replacement can be purchased and programmed through your dealer/retailer. The vehicle can be reprogrammed so that lost or stolen transmitters no longer work. Each vehicle can have up to four transmitters programmed to it.
Programming with a Recognized Transmitter
A new transmitter can be programmed to the vehicle when there is one recognized transmitter. For vehicles sold in Canada, two recognized transmitters are required to program a new transmitter.
- The vehicle must be off.
- Both the recognized and new transmitters must be with you.
- Insert the vehicle key into the key cylinder located on the outside of the driver door.
- Turn the key to the unlock position five times within five seconds.
- The Driver Information Center (DIC) displays READY FOR FOB 2, 3 or 4.
- Place the new transmitter into the transmitter pocket, located inside the center console storage area located between the driver and front passenger seats, with the transmiter buttons facing the front of the vehicle.
- A beep sounds once programming in complete. The DIC displays READY FOR 3 or 4, or MAX # FOBS LEARNED.
- Remove the transmitter from the transmitter pocket and press twice on each newly programmed transmitter to complete the process.
- To program additional transmitters, repeat Step 6. Press Acc. on the ignition switch if programming is complete.
Programming without a Recognized Transmitter
This procedure requires three ten minutes cycles to complete the programming process. United States owners are permitted to program a new transmitter to their vehicle when a recognized transmitter is not available. The Canadian immobilizer standard requires that Canadian owners see their dealer/retailer for programming new transmitters when two recognized transmitters are not available.
- The vehicle must be off.
- Place the new transmitter into the transmitter pocket, located inside the center console storage area located between the driver and front passenger seats, with the transmitter buttons facing the front of the vehicle.
- Insert the vehicle key into the key lock cylinder located on the driver door.
- Turn the key to the unlock position five times within five seconds.
- The DIC message displays OFF/ACC TO LEARN.
- Press Acc. on the ignition switch.
- The DIC reads WAIT 10 MINUTES and counts down to zero.
- The DIC displays OFF/ACC TO LEARN again.
- Press Acc. on the ignition switch.
- Steps 7, 8 and 9 will be repeated two more times.
- A beep sounds and the DIC reads READY FOR FOB 1. All previously known transmitter programming has been erased.
- A beep sounds once programming in complete. The DIC displays READY FOR FOB #2.
- To program additional transmitters, take transmitter 1 out of the transmitter pocket and place transmitter 2 in the pocket. Up to four transmitters can be programmed. The DIC will then display MAX # FOBS LEARNED and will exit the programming mode.
- Remove the transmitter from the transmitter pocket and press twice on each newly programmed transmitter to complete the process.

No, the smart key remotes are not pre-programmed before shipping. In order for the smart key remote to function with your vehicle, your vehicle must be programmed to accept the remote.
If your vehicle supports an onboard programming procedure, you may be able to program the remote yourself by following the instructions provided on the product page and shipping package.
If your vehicle is not onboard programmable or if you need key cutting, we highly recommend seeking the assistance of a professional automotive locksmith rather than a dealership. Automotive locksmiths are trained and equipped to handle a wide range of vehicle key and remote programming needs, and they typically offer more competitive pricing than dealerships. The cost of their services is based on their local market and the expensive equipment used for key cutting and vehicle programming.
To program your new remote or key, an automotive locksmith will connect an expensive scan tool to your vehicle's computer and guide the vehicle through the programming process. We recommend using online resources such as www.autolocksmithfinder.com or your local yellow pages to locate a reputable automotive locksmith in your area.
We offer three types of smart key fobs: New OEM, Refurbished OEM, and New Aftermarket.
- New OEM smart key remotes are 100% original equipment manufacturer (OEM) products that come in the original package. In some cases, they may be out of the original package if the package was not available in a sealed condition.
- Refurbished smart key fobs are factory original equipment components reconditioned with a brand new emergency key, casing is either pre-owned or recased condition and may or may not include logo. They are fully tested and will function like their original equipment counterparts.
- New Aftermarket remotes are premium quality Avicero brand new aftermarket products with no logos. These remotes are made to our high-quality standards and are an excellent option for customers who prefer a lower-cost alternative to OEM products.
At Remotes And Keys, we take pride in offering a wide range of automotive locksmith supplies and resources to help our customers keep their vehicles secure and functional. We stand behind the quality of our products and are committed to providing exceptional customer service.
